LFS rolling release?

is it possible to keep a LSF updated (rolling release style)? using the GNU build system (make)?

Hi,

Even though there are people who use (B)LFS on a daily base (I do), its primarily goal is to give an inside into how linux is build and how it works.

From the LFS documentation:
Quote:

Some reasons why no package manager is mentioned in LFS or BLFS include:
- Dealing with package management takes the focus away from the goals of these books—teaching how a Linux system is built.
- There are multiple solutions for package management, each having its strengths and drawbacks. Including one that satisfies all audiences is difficult.
There are some LFS Hints that discuss package management (The GNU build system not being one of them).

All the above doesn't necessarily mean you cannot set up the GNU build system on a LFS system. It might be possible, but you need to experiment yourself and be prepared to encounter and solve problems (be it with help from LQ or other sources).

If you are going to build LFS and this is your first time doing so I would advise you to follow the book first before altering/adding anything. You need to have a solid understanding of how things are done. This does depend a bit on the level of linux/unix experience one has, but it is a safe starting point.

Hope this helps.
