LFS - Pass1 gcc make failed with [configure-target-libvtv] Error 1


Hello,

This is regarding LFS - GCC pass1 compilation.
where make is failing with below error :

checking for C compiler default output file name...
configure: error: in `/mnt/lfs/sources/gcc-build/x86_64-lfs-linux-gnu/libvtv':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.
make[1]: *** [configure-target-libvtv] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/gcc-build'
make: *** [all] Error 2


Some details :
Host system - CentOS 7 (installed in vmware)
LFS version - 7.8
GCC version (host) - 4.8.5 20150623 (Red Hat 4.8.5-39)
GCC version (lfs) - 5.2.0
glibc version (host) - 2.17

Your error occurs in configuring the build of libvtv. It is the config.log in that directory that should show your error. The main log that you posted exited successfully.

btw this caveat applies to both gcc and binutils. They both do multiple subordinate configure operations during the make stage. The config.log that you need to check is therefore determined by the name of the directory the error occurred in.

Solved by using --disable-libvtv

In gcc-build there was no directory created for libvtv.

Then I have tried --disable-libvtv in GCC configure command and retried make/make install, all went successful.

Ah! I just checked the book. There's a whole stack of libraries that need to be disabled for the stage 1 build and that's one of them. You must have missed it off last time around.
