lfs - old laptop - clfs or lfs
I have an old laptop that would work great without the bloat that many distros encourage. I have built one other lfs system in the past. This laptop does not have enough room for a host system and the build system, which is why I am planning on building it on my amd64 desktop and then transferring a tarball (or more if necessary) to the laptop. The laptop though is of the i386 architecture.

I saw a great response to a similar situation here.

My question is:

If I install an i386 distro on my amd64 desktop to compile lfs , do I need to use the clfs instructions or can I follow the lfs book?

Thanks for any and all help,

You do not have to cross-compile. All you have to do is to compile everything without optimization. To ensure the compiler will not optimize, issue

export CFLAGS="-march=i386 -O2" && CXXFLAGS=$CFLAGS
This will produce code executable on ANY x86 machine.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply - I will do that and when all is done I will post my results.
