LFS LiveCD-6.2, ch. 6.10 problem

I have got quite easily from live cd boot to chapter 6.9 3 times, with no obvious errors, apart from the times I mistyped a command or even missed a line altogether

All the test in 6.9 ( Glibc-2.3.6 ) pass no problem, then onto readjusting the toolchain and the sanity checks.

echo 'main(){}' > dummy.c
cc dummy.c -Wl,--verbose &> dummy.log
readelf -l a.out | grep ': /lib'
gives no errors and displays the linker prefix as /lib/ , but ..
grep -o '/usr/lib.*/crt[1in].* .*' dummy.log
returns no messages, nor does
 grep 'SEARCH.*/usr/lib' dummy.log |sed 's|; |\n|g'

grep "/lib/ " dummy.log

grep found dummy.log
If I ignore these errors and try to proceed to Binutils then that fails to build as there is no c compliler, so I obviously doing something wrong with the readjustment, but I fail to see what.

I am not sure what just happened, the command gcc -dumpmachine used earlier in the build created /tools/i686-pc-linux-gnu but if I now enter echo $(gcc -dumpmachine) it returns the triplet i486-pc-linux-gnu.

In the book (6.2) the readelf line is as I posted and gives the correct response
[Requesting program interpreter: /lib/]
In chapter 5.7 it was /tools/lib/... for the temp sys.
In Chapter 5, the chain was guided from the host's /{,usr/}lib directories to the new /tools/lib directory. Now, the chain will be guided from that same /tools/lib directory to the LFS /{,usr/}lib directories.
Are you saying that I should not readjust the toolchain at this point?
