LFS-7.7-rc1 is available now.

The Linux From Scratch community announces the release of LFS Version 7.7-rc1.
It is a preliminary release of LFS-7.7. Major changes include toolchain updates
to binutils-2.25, glibc-2.21, and gcc-4.9.2. In total, 30 packages were updated
since the last release. Changes to the text have also been made throughout the
book. The linux kernel has also been updated to version 3.19.

We encourage all users to read through this release of the book and test the
instructions so that we can make the final release as good as possible.

lfs-dev <at> linuxfromscratch.org. Please note that registration for the lfs-dev
mailing list is required to avoid junk email.

How come just as I decide to build a new system and am half way through updating all the build scripts and version numbers the devs launch a new version? Happens every time!

Well, new release happens two times a year, 1st of March and 1st of September, with about 2 weeks freezes (starting around 15th of February and 15th of August), with some minor exceptions to wait for, such as util-linux-2.26 that caused the book to slip 4 days this time and glibc-2.20 that caused the slip for almost 2 weeks last time. Plan your updates accordingly.

Kernel 3.19 is already part of 7.7. He's aiming for 3.19.1 as neither him or I are really comfortable shipping a .0 kernel version.

I know I add this package myself almost always, but have you guys ever considered adding os-prober to help assist operating system detection?
