There are no host that meet the requirements out-of-the-box (except another LFS system).

Good hosts to start with: Debian, Slackware and Ubuntu.

What specific release/version of debian, ubuntu or slack?

One of the latest releases will do fine, it doesn't necessarily has to be the very latest. Don't use a very old version though.

Host System for LFS7.5

I'm just starting, so may be off base here -

after trying a few different distros, I decided to just use the Live CD, only to find out it is no longer being maintained/updated for LFS 7.5 (???why???)

After doing about 30 searches, I came across Salix 13.xx, and ended up with Salix 14.1
It is small, and lightweight even in it's basic GUI install (a no-gui install is possible as well as a "full" install) - and it meets all of the requirements of the Host System Requirements as found in LFS 7.5 Preface vii, with no tweaking needed (no links to dash, etc.)

Hope this helps someone, although it probably needs to be moved somewhere...:newbie:

Slackware/SalixOS out of the box already come with all required tool kits to build LFS. Other releases generally have to be made compliant with extra tuning.
