Kernel panicked: Attempted to kill init!

i am currently installing my first LFS... along the way i overlooked the part that tells me that i need to move the source tarballs into /usr/src directory... what happened is that i am installing from /static/src (assuming im already in chroot). i never had problems installing all other packages until i have reached the end... the problem goes when rebooting... i have recompiled my kernel succesfully and with no errors... when when i boot up my lfs an error appears that goes like this:

auto: auto: No such file or directory
Kernel panicked: Kernel attempted to kill init!

I tried to use my old kernel configuration from my SuSE 8.0, but same problem appears. then i just wondered what if i wasnt able to install a program called auto.... but i searched every packages but i never found a program called auto. what should i do? pleaseeeeeeeeee help!

If this is still an unresolved issue, maybe you could post how far it goes into booting up, maybe use a bootdisk to try and retrieve the system log and post it.
