i want to make my distribution

Hi everyone there,

I want to make my distribution
I have tried that LFS that is fine and cool
But whole of that procedure is to be done manually

can u guys there tell me how to automate it and to put it in a bootable CD

and have something like install which does all the work by itself without manual intervention

rahul

dear rahul try automated alfs . I have been trying the same as of u since the last 6 days.
what i feel is that u need two things
1. programming
2. system administrating
at least to a some level

hi saurav_gohain

what u said is correct. automated alfs i have visited it gives in two ways of making an automatic lfs and blfs install

but my problem is in which language should i make perfection

and how to make a distribution CD

From the sounds of it, you guys might have some luck looking at:
www.gentoo.org

If you've looked at ALFS and it's not for you, maybe gentoo is. It's not quite as hands on as LFS, but does a decent job at getting you to the point where LFS leaves off and BLFS takes over (with a stage 1 tarball)

Cool

hi sourav

what u r talking bout is fine

the shell script works fine

but what bout putting it on to the CD with automatic hardware detection and installation of packages

rahul_jain_9684 07-16-2003 09:32 AM

xmms mp3

I have red hat 8.0

i have some mp3 songs but they do not get added to the playlist of xmms and neither they get played
whereas wav files are played and get added too.

Anybody plz help

saurav_gohain 07-17-2003 12:20 AM

in that case you have to write scripts ( perl) to do the detection of the hardware ( more importantly the hdd) and then write the whole thing in a CD and make it bootable.

hi sourav

u say for the perl scripts
that is fine
i also know about the bootable CDs
but what about running those scripts directly after booting form the CD is complete

RE: XMMS and MP3s

Red Hat does not ship with MP3 support in any form. Go to The XMMS Website and download the Red Hat MP3 plugin for XMMS.
