I made it online with lfs

I made it on-line and did some web browsing with links. I had to use the info in beyond lfs about setting up dhcp. Even after following the steps outlined(setting up dhcp) It was failing at bringing up my eth0. The only thing I did differently(I think) was added this option in the kernel: Character devices, enhanced real time clock support, config_rtc. Now it seems to work.

Do you think the config_RTC option(lack of) is what was stopping my eth0 from working before? I am not sure if that was the only change I made.

I recompiled my kernel and left out the option config_RTC . My system booted and my network is still working. Their gos my theory(config_rtc was nessasary) on why I was able to get internet access all of the sudden. I must have changed somthing else, but I have no idea what. I guess I should just be happy it is working.

I have figured out with certainty what was causeing my eht0 to fail to come up. If I have SMP support enabled in the kernel my eth0 fails. I have reproduced this effect several times(compiling and recompiling with and without).

I've also found that enabling SMP support prevents the ALSA drivers compiling. Good luck with the rest of Beyond lfs.
