hoe to back up the full lfs system : i got an error

when i try to copy the full lfs partition
it says permission denied
any ideas

How about posting the command you used and the full error?

I suspect that you have not unmounted proc, shm etc etc and are not logged in as root.

You do need to be root. cp -rp or cp -a will/should get everything.

Post that command. We'll hammer away at it.

i forgot to unmount the proc

just for archives sake..........you'll need to umount /dev/pts
also........
