The Linux kernel doesn't fit on a floppy disk anymore, so installing a reasonably modern LFS system from floppies isn't going to work.

Sorry I really hate stealing somebody else's thread but if you use a very old linux kernel would it fit on say.... less then 10 floppy disks?

10 1.5 MB floppy disks = 15MB of space total.

These days you can get 10 floppy disks for $2 and if you have an old computer like I do that actually reads from floppy disks this could be useful.

Like instead of using the 44435 KB 2.6.9 linux kernel you could use the 5707 KB 2.0 linux kernel.

It would be useful if you were just making a rescue disk with just a VERY bare minimum of tools.

The idea here is to make a linux distro as small as possible.

Those kernel sizes are the actual not installed package sizes so I have no idea what the ACTUAL size of the linux kernel would end up being once compiled.

The only problem here would be that 10 floppies is kinda a BIG number to just keep taking them out and putting them back in.

sadly though floppy disks never got over 1.5 MB
