grub stages
I get a weird errot when I try to make the lfs bootable
grub> setup (hd0,7)
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... no
Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0,7) /boot/grub/stage2 p /boot/grub/menu
.lst "... failed
Error 22: No such partition
grub>
Do you know how to fix it???
THX
PS :I don't want it to be my main bootloader ....

if you follow the book, it does mention about additional stages...
Quote:
The i386-pc directory contains a number of *stage1_5 files, different ones for different file systems. Review the files available and copy the appropriate ones to the /boot/grub directory. Most users will copy the e2fs_stage1_5 and/or reiserfs_stage1_5 files.

Honestly I don't think you need the stages1_5 file. I am not entirely sure what it does but I was able to get a working system without it.
As for the partition. IF your lfs system is on /dev/hda8 then your file will be setup (hd0,7) is right. I would double check.
run fdisk /dev/hda and hit p for print.
Also you might wanna see if your lfs partition is below the 1024 cylinder range. I think it should work above but my system failed misserably like that.
You could also try booting with a rescue disk or a distro CD (Slackware works awesome). If that doesn't boot it then grub won't be able to either. Maybe you have a hard drive issue.
