Gen2 much

This is winded

..............I am starting to play around with my old Power Book (400 Mhz/1MB Cache/64MB/6Gb HD/8MB video) and have installed Yellow Dog 3.01 on the little guy. The deal is I didn’t fancy Yellow dog. I wanted flexibility and some difficulty to bang the rust off my effing backside (not sure if you can swear in the forum but I almost certainly will by the end of this). I have only installed Linux once on the command line and that was with a friend who was a great deal savvier than I was. All my other installs have been graphic… yes naked with chips and mountain dew in a dark place hidden from all. Anyway I am in great need of a revival in my soul, the chips and Dew helped in killing it but not as much as that effing pussy interface. Shell scripting, C++ and a little FORTRAN are all anyone really needs right? I am not having as much fun… wholly crap! Anyway I need a streamline version of Linux that will fit my PPC. I was thinking Gentoo or something but I have been having trouble with the Live CD install, it will not work. And the fingerprint is fine (downloaded and checked it twice like Santa)... just a minute and I will do this right. Here I go downloading a new Gentoo version (32a114088aaa6908bdaa3b5273f50b43 *install-universal-ppc-2004.1.iso) from metadistribution.org/gentoo/2004.1/. It is very nice when you get the fingerprint and don’t have to check it online but I will for all of you that say I should with no go reason… Dicks… waiting… hardcore at 12:21am … ok the fingerprint using MD5sums is 32a114088aaa6908bdaa3b5273f50b43 for all of you who didn’t check… the same! I am shutting everything down to burn using NERO. At 1:14am done and done. Disk is in starting holding c as I type. Booted up… I pushed tab and will now select G3 Boot option... wait for it… Dev/console: no such file Kernel Panic Attempt to KILL. REBOOT! Holding c letting the cracked out CD pick the G4 boot for whatever reason… same thing! New CD. G4 works G3 is corrupt, sounds like NERO is FUCKEDO. I will use the Yellow Dog toast to burn CD. Same shizt. OK don’t use metadistribution! I used a new Gentoo download and was able to get to the command line with the G4 boot option but I am a G3 mac so I figure “No go”. It is now 2:59am and I need to script so could someone with macG3 to Gentoo balls point me in a direction that works or is better then this Live Boot crap! My Zen machine is out there I know it and it's not Yellow dog.

Oh and how do I move my post? this is my first one

I've used the G3 image once to install on a G3 Mac.

I've also heard of people having luck with this PPC universal image.

Also, not that I like to discourage people posting here, because this is a great site, but forums.gentoo.org is a great place to get Gentoo specific advice/information/help.

There are instructions in the Gentoo Install Documentation that will tell you have to isntall Gentoo from another distribution on a running machine. You might want to try that.

thanks and Jamie is cute

I have tried both with similar problems as I had described. Getting out of gen-too altogether and moving on to something small not too user friendly and with a lot of functionality would be fine too. Anything that will fit my PPC is an option.
