First attempt at doing from scratch

I have downloaded all the packages and I reading on what to do. But I guess I might be dumb but how to I start. How to I get to the partition of the drive. Do I need a boot up disk or is there something else I am missing? I am sorry but I am stuck at this point.

Im not sure exactly what you mean when you say that but to be honest you might want to use Slackware for a bit longer if understanding the partitioning as it is layed out in LFS is a bit confusing for you.

Otherwise....hmm, the book seems pretty clear to me. You have to make a new partition that (for ease of use while reading the book) you should name lfs. If I remember correctly, the book's example is /mnt/lfs. Of course you want to make a new user and you want to give that user access to the new /mnt/lfs partition. If you are confused about this, then I think that LFS is still something that will be too difficult for you. I hate to say that....

what next?

I thought the same thing initially, so instead of spending a ton of time researching I just re-installed fedora and split my 10gig in half... one for / and one for /lfs. After doing this just make sure you install all the development tools on your fedora (or whatever) distribution...
