Fedora Core 4 as host system

Hi I've been trying to build LFS using FC4 as the host system. Little did I know that buried deep in a FAQ on the linuxfromscratch site (I can't post the URL cause the forum says I'm too new here), it says that I should not use FC4 as host distro. Is this up to date information or has the latest patches and revisions of LFS made FC4 a viable host system?

BTW: I'm using the source from the 6.1.1-4 LiveCD and the 6.1.1 version of the book.

If your thinking about doing a lfs install id just use the livecd as a host.

I never read anything suggesting FC4 to be a bad host system and I did successfully make an LFS system work using FC4 as a host. The only issue might be is you try to compile gcc3 because FC uses gcc4

Well there is a patch if the host system has GCC4 in Binutils-2.15.94.0.2.2 pass 1. I have not tried fedora core as a host system but i dont see why it couldnt work

What distribution should I use to start from?

Most relatively recent distributions should be fine. Do not use Fedora Core 4 as its version of GCC does not work with the current stable version of LFS. Make sure you have installed and/or updated the development packages. (Look for ones starting in "gcc", "glibc", or "libstdc++" or ending in "-dev".). If you want to use LFS as your main system and you wish to install it without first installing a distribution, try the LFS LiveCD or Knoppix.
I think the most recent patches fixes the issues with GCC4

I'll give it a try with FC5 soon and see how I go.
