Expect install issue

I got through everything up to Expect without a problem (this time through), and now I'm facing a new error:

checking if we are running Linux... yes
checking for strchr... (cached) yes
checking for stdlib.h... (cached) yes
checking type of library to build... both shared and unshared
creating ./config.status
mv: cannot move `conftest.tail' to `conftest.vals': No such file or directory

That last line just repeats over and over again.

I'm jusing LFS 5.1 on Mandrake 9.2 running on VMWare.

Thanks for any hints!
