Error When Compiling GCC

When I compile gcc with the "make bootstrap" command I get an error message after a few minutes:

Quote:

What architecture do you have (processor type - x86, x86_64, ppc, alpha or ... )? I suppose it's x86_64
What is the host distro you are using (kernel version, ...)? You might need a more "modern" kernel.
What gcc version does your distro have (is it 2.95.x ?)? You might need to ungrade you gcc.

Distrobution: Ubuntu Dapper 6.06
Architecture: x86_64
GCC Version: 4.0.3 (Ubuntu 4.0.3-1ubuntu5)
Kernel: 2.6.15-27-amd64-generic

So you're thinking I should downgrade GCC for compiling LFS? I just checked in synaptic and it looks like the 3.4 and 3.3 versions of GCC are all that's available in the repositories. However, removing gcc 4.0 removes a bunch of programs and libraries on my system so I would prefer not to do that.

I've decided to burn a LiveCD and start over. Hopefully I don't run into the same problem this time.
