error: smbfs filesystem not supported by kernel

I have installed the SAMBA-3.0.30 packages and configured the smb.conf.

When i tried to access my windows shared folder as shown below.

Code:
mount -t smbfs //192.168.1.102/linux /mnt/winxp_share -o username=x password=x
And i had the this error :

Code:
ERROR: smbfs filesystem not supported by the kernel
Please refer to the smbmnt(8) manual page
smbmnt failed: 255
Anything that i need to do which i didn't do.
Would appreciate if anyone could advice.

Thanks in advance.

If you have compiled yourself the kernel, then you missed smbfs support.
Or since smbfs is deprecated, try cifs instead:
Code:
mount -t cifs //192.168.1.102/linux /mnt/winxp_share -o username=x,password=x

thanks.. besides recompiling the kernel,in anyway i could load the module which i have compiled the Samba package as instructed in BLFS book.

Anyway i shall do the selection of smbfs in the kernel and recompile it.

Thanks..
