"error: C compiler cannot create executables" when I try to compile gcc4.3.2 in/tools

However binutils does compile without error.
I am using debian lenny i386 with lxde. I've installed build-essential. I thought it might be that the install cd was corrupted so I reinstalled all packages from the repository and it still doesn't work. For some reason tar doesn't work but file-roller does. here is the config.log file:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=9...4e75f6e8ebb871

Sorry I had to put it at a download site, the post was 27023 characters with it pasted here.

Edit: the download doesn't seem too be working so i'll put it in multiple posts
Edit: Maybe I have to change exit (42) in confdefs.h to void std::exit (42) can someone please confirm and tell me where confdefs.h is.
Edit: I've searched and there isn't even a confdefs.h file I am going to try to compile gcc 4.4.0 instead.
Edit: That didn't work either, I'm going to try a different distro.

patch

you must patch binutils with binutils-2.18-GCC43-1.patch beforce configure.

patch -Np1 -i ../binutils-2.18-GCC43-1.patch

then, compile binutils and continue to gcc

I'm almost certain I patched it with that patch and the Binutils Texinfo Version Patch and I've also tried using gcc-4.1. I'll try again in case I did something stupid like configuring it before I patched it. There isn't any reason I need to apply that patch before the Binutils Texinfo Version Patch is there because that would explain it; there shouldn't be any reason to do that though unless they modify the same areas of the code which is unlikely.
Edit: It worked but not when I added c++ to the enable languages configuration option.
