Encrypted Root Filesystem HOWTO and /dev filesystem

I'm currently looking into purchasing a used laptop. I want to use LFS current (5.1 right now) and the steps described in the Encrypted Root Filesystem HOWTO.
However the Encrypted Root Filesystem HOWTO says
Quote:
(important note: do not enable /dev file system support)
.

Is there a valid reason for not using devfs with this type of setup? Perhaps I'm mestaken but I believe I saw somewear that devfs was very good for LFS.
