Chp. 8.3 Compiling Linux Kernel

I ran the command make menuconfig. I would get an error:

Code:
collect2: cannot find 'ld'
make[1]: ***[/scripts/basic/fixdep] Error 1
I have checked the PATH and it is fine. I've also run ld -v and its fine so I'm not too sure at this point. Thanks for any help.

ld is not in the path of the "user" that is running make? Is this mentioned in config.log?

Look through the path definitions in the top makefile to see where it is looking for ld. (The location of the error message text will be a clue.) Then correct it.
