chapter 5 to 6

I've finished chapter 5. Now moving on to Ch. 6. My only question is did you guys delete your sources from ch5 and start with fresh tarbells and sources for ch6 or just reuse your sources from ch5?

Thx

That can be a subject of debate...

Personally, I deleted all the source trees immediately after I ran "make install". Doing that guarantees there are no "leftovers" from the static compile.

Also, sometimes patches are applied to the source code for a static compile that are not needed for the chapter 6 compile. I don't know if there is a specific example in the current book, but I have seen it in older books. It could cause problems later if it isn't cleaned up.

Yeah I posted cause I started into ch6 using all the old sources from ch5. Got to a couple of packages that were installed in ch5 and need to be installed in ch6.

gcc, gawk, bash are just some of the few that are installed in both chapters, using the old sources from ch5 some errored and some installed. So I was confused as to what the common practice was. I wasn't sure if you would need the sources from ch5 for ch6, the book isn't very clear on that.

Thx
