Chap 5.2 make embryo toolchain error

Hello, I am following the HLFS tutorial and in 5.2 after configuring:

../embryo-toolchain/configure --prefix=/tools \
--with-local-prefix=/tools --with-pic --disable-nls \
--disable-libmudflap --disable-libssp \
--enable-languages=c --enable-checking \
--enable-werror --enable-bootstrap

sucessfully creating a Makefile,

And running:

make

<snip>

../bfd/.libs/libbfd.a(cache.o): In function 'bfd_open_file':
../../embryo-toolchain/bfd/cache.c:440: undefined reference to 'unlink_if_ordinary'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[4]: *** [size] Error 1
make[4] Leaving directory '/mnt/hlfs/tools/embryo-build/stage1-binutils'
make[3] *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3] Leaving directory '/mnt/hlfs/tools/embryo-build/stage1-binutils'
make[2] *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
make[2] Leaving directory 'mnt/hlfs/tools/embryo-build/stage1-binutils'
make[1] *** [all-stage1-binutils] Error2
make[1] Leaving directory '/mnt/hlfs/tools/embryo-build'
make: *** [stage-1-bubble] Error2

I have followed the tutorial 3 or 4 times and always get stuck at this point, thanks for any suggestions.

You might use an old version of binutils. Unlink_if_ordinary() is part of gnu libiberty which is part of binutils. Try binutils-2.17 and gcc-4.1.1 as stated in the (current) HLFS manual. This problem might have been happened because you used the complete tarball available from mirror servers. This tarball is not always current, I tried this too and got binutils-15.x.x which does not include unlink_if_ordinary().
