Cannot find wlan

I apologize if this is in the wrong section. I finished the LFS book for the first time yesterday, and quickly decided to continue onto BLFS. However, I noticed that I do not have an internet connection, something that is sorta important to downloading files for BLFS. I'm currently trying to figure out where I messed up on LFS.

I have a USB wireless card, an Encore ENUWI-ZDPR. On other pre-compiled distro's, it appears as wlan0. I just checked on PCLOS real quick before I posted this, and although I can connect to the internet fine there, there isn't a /dev/wlan0 or /dev/wlan file, so one not appearing in LFS doesn't seem to be a huge issue.

When LFS boots, (6.3) I notice a quick message about an interface cannot be found for wlan0.

I also tried installing ndiswrappers, as I have to use those on pre-compiled distros. After installing my driver, it appears when I do a:
ndiswrapper -l
However, it doesn't say that a device is present, as it should, according to NDISWrapper's FAQ. (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/j...gure_interface)

I also tried to install the Wireless Tools for Linux, as recommended by the NDISWrapper FAQ. When I run:
iwconfig
I get this:

Quote:
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

ipddp0 no wireless extensions.

tunl0 no wireless extensions.

gre0 no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.

ip6tnl0 no wireless extensions.
Note the absence of wlan0.

I've run out of ideas. I'll continue to search the internet, as I have almost all day, but I'm hoping someone knows what is wrong.

Thanks for the help!

I suspect the problem is that on your system there is no driver for Encore ENUWI-ZDPR. The pre-compiled distro(s) are using one. You may need to
find out which driver handles it, and set up that driver for your system.

Wouldn't the NDISWrapper become the driver though?

I am not sure if this would apply to your situation, but according to the FAQ of ndiswrapper:

If you find everything is ok but you can’t connect to the internet try issuing a route, if you notice that the last line does not have a gateway ip address and does not reference the wlan0 interface try this: route add default gateway 192.168.0.1 in my case the router’s ip address is 192.168.0.1, but it might be something like 10.0.0.1 on your setup
If you still can’t get onto the internet but you can ping your router see if the file _/etc/resolv.conf_ exists, if not then you won’t be able to resolve ip addresses, make a resolv.conf like so... Check you can ping you router, the ip address will vary on different routers, but it’s generally either 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 ping 192.168.0.1 Use your favourite text editor and insert the follwoing line into /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 192.168.0.1 You should now be able to ping stuff on the internet, try going somewhere in a browser too: ping ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net

Especially the first paragraph references that it seems to work ok, but you see no wlan0. Maybe you can give tis a try? And, yes, ndiswrapper should be the driver now.

Ndiswrapper is for use with a driver, usually a binary driver written for another OS.
You would need that binary together with the ndiswrapper to get the binary driver
available for use. Always prefer to find an open source driver; use ndiswrapper and its binary only as an ugly last resort (no other way)
