cannot boot from grub USB thumb drive: /dev/sdb not detected


the question is in newbie thread.

i'm asking here in LFS because i hear LFS has a bootable USB. i'm hoping someone who's using LFS (from scratch) happens to know "why LFS usb boot works" (thus why my usb boot disk attempt stops when mounting root)
