Can't "make" Binutils-2.16.1
Have successfully executed commands downloading and tarring and configuring this source, but when I then enter the "make" command I get the following message "make: command not found." What gives? I've had no trouble installing source packages in the past using this command. I may ultimately have to give up on LINUX FROM SCRATCH, but I'd hate to have the ultimate reason be through a lack of success when following the instructions precisely.

If you get the message "make: command not found." it means that make is not in your $PATH, (it should be in /usr/bin) which probably means that you need to install make

Hi,
It could also mean that your environment (PATH setting to name one) is not set up correctly.
Did you solve the issue you had before? It could be related to that.

While "make" per se is not in my /usr/bin, several files beginning with the letters "make" are. I hate to ask probably another stupid question, but where do I locate the "make" command to be able to install it in /usr/bin? Also, I did solve my other problem of not being able to get into lfs through the su - lfs command, but I had to virtually begin Linux From Scratch all over again from the start. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Hi,
As stated by Andrew Benton: make should be located in /usr/bin.
Try which make to check if it's located somewhere else (I doubt it).
What are you using as base system? The liveCD or some other distro?
If the last (some other distro) is what you use: Does it meet the host system requirements for 6.2?

I'm using the latest version of Ubuntu. When I get the time, I'll run the test query you referred me to, but I'm assuming Ubuntu has everything. Thanks again.
