C compiler doesn't seem to exist at 5.11

Hello.

I am on chapter 5.11 and am trying to make gcc for the second time. It keeps failing after it checks to see whether the C compiler works.

Code:
checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out
checking whether the C compiler works... configure: error: cannot run C compiled programs.
If you meant to cross compile, use '--host'.
See 'config.log' for more details.
make: *** [configure-target-libstdc++-v3] Error 1
I am compiling on a 64-bit architecture. The OS I'm using is Fedora Core 4 x86_64. When I perform a test I get this:

Code:
readelf -l /tools/bin/expect | grep interpreter
     [Requesting program interpreter: /tools/lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
Expect successfully compiled so I don't know why gcc can't. Expect also shows that it was compiled with the correct interpreter in the LFS distro.

Code:
readelf -l /bin/ls | grep interpreter
     [Requesting program interpreter: /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
The ls program on Fedora Core (not compiled with lfs' gcc) shows the difference between the two interpreters. My host machine's interpreter is in the /lib64 folder.

If anyone could help me with this problem I'd be might gracious. Thanks!

Normal LFS supports only x86. For x86_64, see Cross-LFS.
