Build LFS from dos partition?

Do you mean from like within Windows ?? Most likely not since Windows cannot read ext2 or Linux native filesystems in which you would need to build your LFS on. You could however maybe use VMware or another type of emulator to build it from within DOS or Windows.

no i dont mean build it within windows i mean like boot a kernel from dos and have a file in dos that could be root, get my drift?

i would use something like loadlin to boot the kernel, and set root to c:\root for example, it would be like linux file system inside of there.

I mean you could possibly try it, but Linux usually works best on its own native filesystems. There are a few distros that make it so Linux runs on DOS or FAT filesystems which really don't do so well.

If you don't want to install a Linux distribution first, then try using a bootable cdrom that contains a working Linux distro on it. There are even bootable LFS cdroms available that boot a fully working LFS system which allow you to build other LFS systems. See the mailinglist archives for all the info who makes them and where you can download the ISOs. Or contact me directly and we can work something out about me sending you a cdrom by postal mail.

thanks lfslinux, I have got me hands on a linux distro now, i created my own and now i am goin to make my LFS, I have been told it day about a day on a decent pc
