Binutils pass 1 - error

In chapter 5.4, Binutils 2.31.1 pass 1, when I issue the following command, there is an error.

Quote:
time {../configure --prefix=/tools --with-sysroot=$LFS --with-lib-path=/tools/lib --target=$LFS_TGT --disable-nls --disable-werror && make && case $(uname -m) in x86_64) mkdir -v /tools/lib && ln -sv lib /tools/lib64 ;; esac && make install;}
Error:
Code:
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `}'
If I issue without the semicolon at the end,
Code:
bash: time{ ../configure: No such file or directory
But the file is present, and works when I try without time.

Slackware 14.2 is my host.
I'd also like to know what the ) in x86_64) means.

if you break it into lines of commands:
Code:
time {
   ../configure --prefix=/tools --with-sysroot=$LFS --with-lib-path=/tools/lib --target=$LFS_TGT --disable-nls --disable-werror &&
   make &&
   case $(uname -m) in
     x86_64) mkdir -v /tools/lib &&
             ln -sv lib /tools/lib64 ;;
   esac &&
   make install;
}
you need to have space before and after { }

Is this ok?
