binutils-2.17 compilation error

Hello all, The steps I took to prepare the build of binutils-2.17 on my linux from scratch system:

CC="gcc -B/usr/bin" ../sources/binutils-2.17/configure \ --prefix=/tools --disable-nls --disable-werror

As it's going through the preparations I noticed the last 4 lines:

1- line 7165: test: too many arguments checking whether to enable maintainer-specific ports of Makefiles... no

2- creating .config.status

3- creating Makefile

4- sed: file conftest.s1 line 67: unterminated 's' command

When I tried to continue the process by entering make I receive the following message:

make: *** No targets. Stop

I'm completely stumped. Please, help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Extra spaces.

Don't use spaces after the \'s
example:

CC="gcc -B/usr/bin" ../sources/binutils-2.17/configure \--prefix=/tools --disable-nls --disable-werror

binar 11-17-2007 12:34 PM

During configure process I get the following error:
Code:

checking whether the C compiler (gcc -B/usr/bin/  ) works... no
What could be the reason for this?
gcc 4.1.2 is located in /usr/bin/

try
sudo apt-get install build-essentials

first of all what is the output of gcc -v....if its sumthing like gcc-4.1.2(ur distro),then dont install build essentials...
why the heck ur including sources in the configure options...Which directory u r in...
Do as it is:

cd $LFS/sources
tar -xvf binutils-2.17.tar.bz2
cd binutils binutils-2.17
mkdir -v ../binutils-build
cd ../binutils-build
CC="gcc -B/usr/bin/" ../binutils-2.17/configure \
--prefix=/tools --disable-nls --disable-werror

This should do.....

That didn't work for me, but I am using version 2.18

Did you ever get this to work? I am getting these errors. Sorry, this is a long list of code, but I was told to put in the code, so the error can be found. At the bottom is the error.

WARNING: `makeinfo' is missing on your system. You should only need it if
you modified a `.texi' or `.texinfo' file, or any other file
indirectly affecting the aspect of the manual. The spurious
call might also be the consequence of using a buggy `make' (AIX,
DU, IRIX). You might want to install the `Texinfo' package or
the `GNU make' package. Grab either from any GNU archive site.
