Binutils 2.14 loop trouble (different issue)

I am trying to compile bin-utils 2.14 for the first time. It looks like everything is going fine, but when I "make configure-host" it sits and loops. heres the configure output, followed by the make configure-host output. It doesn't look like there are any errors. another guy had some issue with the timestamp, this doesn't seem to be the case. any ideas?

I'm not sure I can help you, but I did notice this: You have two different names of binutils (a typo perhaps?) bin-utils 2.14 and binutils-2.14

The latter is what Im used to seeing. Try redownloading the binutils package. got to freshmeat.net and search for it.

yeah that was a typo. as for re-downloading it. I have done that, even on another distro. all of them do the same thing.

The only thing I can think of is to look at everything you do before the first pass of binutils.

If you aren't/haven't already try following the lfs-specification so close that your worshipping it..

I cannot think of any way to hlep you yet..I just hate it when people are left with 0 replies on an important post.

you will probably get some good knowledge from the LFS mailing list if you fail to get any good help here.

btw, were there any patches to apply? This could be another mistake..

yeah, to the letter. even followed the suggested building outside of the source directory (hence the ../binutils-2.14/configure) grrr... sucks when you go to step one of the complicated stuff and it pukes

Hmm, well i don't know enough to help you then..

Try the linuxfromscratch mail support system (search the archive and maybe even register and start asking..).

Or, just move to the new LFS version, which uses the 2.6 kernel and has a different version of binutils.
