Beginning Chapter 6?

Hi,

I'm just about to start chapter 6 but i'm unsure what do to, it states i should be in root for the remainder of the book.

Currently i'm in lfs: /mnt/lfs/sources$ and i need to run

mkdir -pv $LFS/{proc,sys}

but says permission denied.... but i'm not sure how to get back to root, what do i need to do for this chapter?

Thanks

C19

I know my root password. Presumably you know your root password, otherwise how did you create the partition that you're building LFS on?

i actually having the same problem : working with the lfs liveCD and unable to log as root in order to begin the Step 6.
I do not know the root password for the live CD, and i did not find it on any documentation related on the lfs site.

What is this password please ?

You haven't gotten to the point of making a root password yet. The LFS live CD is root. If your prompt says you are "lfs" then type "exit" and go on with the chapter commands.

On using the LiveCD, I work with 3 of the terminals:

tty1(alt-f1): lynx opened to the book

tty2(alt-f2): where I build LFS(ie. chrooted env)

tty3(alt-f3): I use nano to create copy-n-paste scripts saved to $LFS. so when i switch to tty2, the scripts are ready to go. also because nano is not available in chroot'ed env.
