When I installed it, from what I remember it was anywhere from 500 to 700mb.

Hmm, well then, does anyone have any pointers or links to information about reducing it to say 100MB?

There are quite a few things you can do to make your LFS system smaller:
- strip all symbols from the executables (strip --strip-all);
- strip all debug symbols from the libraries (strip --strip-debug);
- either gzip man pages and/or simply delete all the documentation;
Those steps (especially the stripping) should reduce the size of your distro considerably, but I cannot guarantee that it will fit under 100 MB. Also, if you want to make sure you have enough space to build the kernel, have log files etc, I suggest at least 400 MB (that is what I have on my 486 DX/2 router, although I also have an extra 400 MB HD to build packages).
It is possible to have linux in a floppy, but it barely contains anything and you don't have flexibility, and you have to build it on a system with a HD etc.
Have fun!
