APM Module Won't Load

I've been trying to compile APM support as a module on my LFS system (6.3), and I keep being unable to. I go to my kernel sources directory, run make menuconfig and select APM support as a module (I'm not really sure what to do with the extra options that are possible under the APM section, so I don't include them), then run make modules && make modules_install. Finally, I run modprobe apm.

The message I recieve is:
FATAL: Error inserting apm (/lib/modules/2.6.27/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/apm.ko): unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg).

The output of dmesg | grep apm:
apm: Unknown symbol default_idle
apm: Unknown symbol machine_real_restart

Both of these "unknown symbol" errors seem to be related to the optional features of APM support that I disabled under menuconfig, but I can't seem to figure out why this doesn't seem to be working. Can anyone assist me?

Go into your kernel source and run 'make menuconfig'
In the power savings section, select apm, and _read_the_help_.
Follow the instructions. Goodbye.
