another binutils error
 

Hi all,

I am trying to install binutils but I keep getting an error during make.

"checking lfs output file root... configure: error: cannot find output from /mnt/lfs; giving up
make[1]: *** [configure-binutils] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/mnt/lfs/sources/binutils-build'
make: *** [all] Error 2"

can anyone help?
I am relatively new to this and have been trying to get this running from more than a week now.

I am using the lfsLiveCD x86 6.3 r2160.
I am running running it under VMWare in Ubuntu, if that helps.
I have tried to follow the book to the letter, but I can't help thinking I have missed something - or maybe miss-typed something.

Try building it in /mnt/lfs/sources/binutils-2.17 dir. It worked for me :D

I have just tried that, and it is giving me the same error.
I have also tried starting again from scratch and am getting the same error.

I did try using an older build of the liveCD which had binutils-2.16.1 on it and this worked fine - however when I tried to install gcc from that build it would not work - so I really am stuck now.

I have also tried building lfs on another partition from within ubuntu but I am getting the same error, so I dont think it is VMWare.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Done it!

I have been trying to be too clever and ended up being a bit simple.

I was calling my build LEX instead of LFS to try and make it 'my own':o

It turns out there is a part of binutils called lex too and this was causing the error.

Oh well, thanks for the help though!

I'll try and finihs it now and stop being so "clever"
