all libffi tests fail


Hi,

I've been following the book pretty closely so far and now I'm up to chapter 6.49 on libffi-3.2.1. After executing the sed commands as described in the book, I did

It seems like all of the tests fail. What can I do about this and should I worry about it or move on?

That's a failure.

I would remove the source, download the archive afresh, check the md5sum and try it again. Is your host system a Red Hat system, by any chance (Centos, Fedora, Scientific Linux,etc)? They have more patches than I've had hot dinners, and LFS does not build on them, unless things have changed drastically.

The host was Knoppix (64 bit). I did end up deciding to redoing the whole thing again as you suggested business_kid. Luckily I copied and pasted the commands as shell scripts. I am double checking them though in the off chance that there is an error... cross your fingers that this will be fixed.

If not, you have to further back, all the way unless something before fixes it. Moving from static libs to dynamic ones is(or was) particularly hazard prone. I had to do that once with a basically complete LFS. It's irritating when you have the finish in sight and start over, but you're much quicker second time.

After redoing everything carefully, I got my LFS up and running!

Apparently I forgot to write a script that installed diffutils package in chapter 5. I can't really imagine it causing issues with a test that seems to use DejaGNU but whatever the problem was before, I fixed it.

Thanks for your help business_kid. Now on to BLFS...

Just ran into this exact same error, but it was caused by the virtual file systems not being mounted before entering chroot.
