A puzzle on the build of binutils Pass 1

Hi

During the first build of binutils,Pass 1,the cross-linker and corresponding tools are installed in $LFS/tools/bin dir, which are,of course necessary. However, some other tools are installed in $LFS/tools/i686-lfs-gnu-linux/bin dir with a slightly different name. My question is,what is the reason for the existence of those tools(ar,ld,etc)? Or in other word, why the tools in the $LFS/tools/bin dir is insufficient?

Thanks.

Look at book 5.2 : "Binutils installs its assembler and linker in two locations, /tools/bin and /tools/$LFS_TGT/bin. The tools in one location are hard linked to the other."

Actually,I noticed that. But you still didn't tell the key point. After all,if one place installed in is sufficient, why bother need it install in another?

As written in the chapter, you need _both_, as many tools use target triplets.

It's a feature of GNU automake/autoconf and of gcc/binutils/glibc toolchain and used for cross-compiling.
