6.10. Re-adjusting the Toolchain

Hi I am checking to make sure that the compiling and linking are working, however when I do the checks and run the following commands:

echo 'main(){}' > dummy.c
cc dummy.c -v -Wl,--verbose &> dummy.log
readelf -l a.out | grep ': /lib'

on the last command I should be getting the output of:

[Requesting program interpreter: /lib/ld-linux.so.2]

However I do not get any outputs, can someone explain why. is there something I possibly missed.

Thanks

Hi brayden516,

Try these:

% echo $PATH
% which cc
% ls -l ./a.out

Your path (at Ch. 6.10) should be /bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/tools .
Your temporary build tools should be last because you've just built glibc and you want to link to the new library and not the tools/lib.

cc should be pointing to your new gcc at /usr/bin/gcc.
Running cc <blahblahblah> should result in an a.out in your current directory. Running ls -l ./a.out should verify the existence of the object file.

And so the readelf a.out | grep ': /lib' *should* work.

Good luck,
Dennis.
