Hi,

Looks like your host isn't up to specs.

Are you sure you did not skip this step: iv. Host System Requirements?

As and ld are part of binutils, but do check everything that is mentioned.

Hope this helps.

i have binutils 2.20

in the terminal write :
Code:
sudo apt-get purge binutils
and dl binutils 2.12 source !

Code:
./configure
send :
Code:
the command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.C' failed
you must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler
wtf ?

You need to give more information.

I assume you replaced binutils 2.20 with 2.12 on your host and after that you tried to redo 5.7 Glibc-2.10.1 and you got the error you posted (I think you don't have gcc installed).

I would suggest you use the LFS liveCD instead of your current host. Downgrading it (your host) to meet the LFS requirements might not be a good idea. The liveCD was made for it.
