using cron to send mails without using the sendmail
 
is it possible to send/cron outbound using mailx or any
other command line utility . but i donot wand sendmail to run on my box.

Sendmail doesn't have be to running in order to use it. No MTA need to be running in order to use the mail or sendmail command. Or if you prefer, mailx command.

dear ,

i am using redhat ent 3.sendmail is off. even when i try to send mail to the local user (say X) on the server by using userid (y).user y doesnot get recieve any message while sending mail but X donot recieves any mail.

using mail command show no messages.

do i require any other config to be done.
