Upgrade RHEL 3 AS to RHEL 4 AS
I'm currently running RHEL 3 AS and nwo that RHEL 4 AS is out I'm considering an upgrade. However, I want to use SRPMS. I can't afford the subscription since I've been only working hit and miss since being laid off because my IT job moved over seas.
Has any body thought about this or planning on doing the same? What should I be looking for as I plan to move forward? Thanks Lou |
Save yourself the time and effort, use CentOS or other RHEL clones. Take a look at distrowatch for RHEL clones.

Don't go the src rpm route...you'll only go nuts.
If your subscription to RHEL 3 is still good then you can get RHEL 4 free of charge. If your subscription has expired, then go with one of the cheaper alternatives mentioned above. |
Since I still learning RHEL AS will the skills that I've developed be useful in the market place? I've just got RHEL 3 AS up and running and I very pleased with the results.
Might it be better to also persue SUSE Linux also? Thanks |
Red Hat is going to be more prevalent in the U.S. with SuSE not far behind. It would only help you if you learned both.

Instead of suggesting other OS's, does anybody really know the technical answer to this one? I meant the steps to upgrade to RHEL AS4 from RHES AS3 without rebuilding the whole server.
