Updating from RH9

Hi,
I have RH 9 on a server with a 9gig hard drive, can I update that to Redhat Enterprise with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS v3.0 Update 2 that a friend of mine has? or do I have to get Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS v 3.0 regular install?

Help is thanked.

what is this server being used for??

If you own a license for RHEL than you can download the ISOs from RHN... if not.. you can't use RHEL AS... legally anyways... so I would advice against it.. if this isn't some mission critical application i would recommend switching to a new distro...

to directly answer your question, i doubt that an 'update' disc is capable of upgrading from RH9..

You can use CentOS in place of RHEL.

There is no supported upgrade path from and Red Hat Linux to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, so if you want a trouble-free upgrade, I suggest backing up the data on the RH 9 box and doing a clean install of RHEL 3. ...if you do have update CD's I recommend using the highest ones you have.

I only have the update CDS, could I still do it then?

How much drive space does RHEL require?

Yes, the update CD's contain the complete operating system...they just have updated versions of some packages since the initial release. Just boot up to the first CD and go from there.

You'll need at least 5GB for an everything install
