Unable to read/write on serial port /dev/ttyS0

Hi

I have connected a windows PC and a Debian one with null modem cable(serial port).I am trying to establish communication between two systems.
I am using hyperterminal on windows and cutecom on Debian.
Now,i am able to send data from windows pc to debian one
but not able to send data from Debian PC to windows one.
not sure why?I checked /dev/ttyS0 on debian, everything seems to be fine...but still its not working....any suggestions??

Arrow WINDOWS usually not a 'server'

Depending on which flavor of Windows it usually does not have 'terminal' support. OTOH Linux almost always does, as you have seen. I believe there are ssh server programs for Windows but that would not use a serial port.

Can you give more information about the Windows system, and perhaps what you are trying to do?

OK, there are lots of ways to do that. FTP jumps to mind, set up the (or an) ftp server on the Debian system, from XP (which has an ftp client built in), do 'put' to move data to Linux, or 'get' to move data from Linux. If you install Samba on Debian, I think you cam mount the XP disk on Linux. FTP is not too difficult, I'd suggest you start there. I am not very expert with Debian or Samba, but many other LQers are.
