Sending SMS alerts to system administrators

Dear All

I have found that many times my mail-alerts related to CPU,Networking,Disk-usage becomes un-useful since we are not available for 24*7.
Kindly guide me how to generate SMS-alerts from my m/c.

Thanks & Regards

Roy

This makes little sense to me....if folks aren't available 24*7, why would alerting them matter, since they're not available? And if you're already sending emails out, and your users already have cell phones, why can't they check emails from their phones?

Most cellular providers have SMS gateways, and you can send an email to a certain address, and it will send it as SMS to a persons cell-phone. Ask your cellular provider first, since that would be the simplest solution.

You can use mailx to send the message to your cellular provider's SMS gateway, as TB0ne mentioned.

Code:
echo 'Hey Bob, call the datacenter STAT!' | mailx -s 'Server1 is on FIRE' 1112223333@txt.att.net
where, in this example, 1112223333 is your cell phone number and txt.att.net is the cellular provider's SMS gateway.
