Samba PDC, errors with Windows clients

In RHEL5 I configured a samba PDC alongwith a mail server , ftp and apache for intranet purpose . It worked fine in one of my servers .I also have a DNS configured .

In another department ,I configured the same but the samba PDC never worked . When winXP client register in the PDC , error message is displayed , that domain controller cannot be reached , i also tried by putting the SRV record in DNS , also added the machine account , but to no avail .

Please suggest a solution

I was recently learning about using Samba as a PDC in an NTLM environment. Long story - short, I found that the Windows clients have to reboot each time that the Samba software restarts.

If your network has windows clients then I strongly recommend you just bite the bullet and invest in MS's SBS server. I too have deployed a few samba PDC's for windows clients and while they do get the job done, SBS is just the better solution for the job.

If I were you I'd keep mail, ftp and apache on your linux box, and invest in a windows small business server (sbs) to run your domain and dns.

Cheers!
