RHEL cert books recommendation

so, as much as i know about various flavors of nix (mainly securing them and tuning for performance) i need to nab some RHEL certs. i took my pre-exam online at Red Hat site and it says my best path is to take RHCSA Rapid Track with exam (RH200), and RH Sys Admin III with RHCSA and RHCE exams (RH255).

so, considering there are a zillion books available, anyone have any recommendations as to which books provide the best training/knowledge to prepare for RHEL6 exams?

Hi Linux_Kidd,

You can enroll yourself for classroom training conduct by Redhat for RHCSA and RHCE. If that is not possible you can go with Redhat's online documentation: http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Re...prise_Linux/6/

Make yourself aware about the exam objectives:

1. RHCSA exam objectives: http://www.redhat.com/training/cours.../examobjective
2. RHCE exam objectives: http://www.redhat.com/training/cours.../examobjective

It will be a good idea to setup a small virtual lab and practice the stuff mentioned in Redhat's online documentation.

the classroom costs are currently prohibitive.

i have VMware and Virtualbox with numerous vm OS's so creating a lab should be easy (up to a point since the hypervisors put a monkey wrench into some of the admin tasks normally done on a real hardware, etc).

i was hoping to find some study books written with RHCSA/RHCE focus.

to be nice i'll say it this way, my fingers are not broken. i already searched, thats why i stated "a zillion books". i am looking for real world pros/cons/comparison "was it worth the purchase" type of book recommendations, etc. i see jang has written many books on linux, but he's not the only one. his 6th edition only has 27 reviews on amazon and the feedback isnt all that great. i was trying to avoid doing some of the legwork by making a inquiry here to the linux guru's, etc.

and btw, thnx for UK link, but i am in USA, i just updated my profile to reflect that so people see it, etc.

*** IGNORED ***. I have already suggested you the documentations which are from Redhat and that you can use it during preparation. We are not here to counter Redhat's training material or online documentation. If there is training / documentation available from the vendor then why you don't want to refer that?

Did you go through the objectives mentioned? Did you even check the documentations? I mean is there a specific reason you want a book specific to RHCSA and RHCE certification?

As I already mentioned go throug the objectives, setup your lab, practice the objectives mentioned by reading documentation and that is the best way I could think of learning.

No book is perfect it is you who make the best out of it.

@T3RM - yes, i read the objectives. they all seem "simple" to me but i need to use my time efficiently in preparation for the exams. eg, i didnt want to spend a lot of time doing every conceivable lvm task that the RH docs say you can do if the exams focus on just a few lvm tasks, etc. a published book that is focused on a path to taking RHCSA/RHCE would serve me better, hence why i am looking for a recommendation on which book(s) are better than others in this regard. i appreciate what you have provided.

Ouch! Dear Linux_Kidd, I think the reviews of my book are overall more than fine. FWIW, if you do choose to purchase my book, http://www.amazon.com/dp/0071765654 , I am here, and will do my best to answer any questions that you have as time permits. If I'm not here, my username supports messages that are forwarded to my e-mail address.

FYI, I've posted a number of tips in the certification section of this board, ref http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...tification-46/ which may also help in your decision.

hi mike,
i think there is some confusion. i am looking for "reviews" of say your book vs others. your book just so happens to be mentioned here not because i brought it up. amazon only has 27 reviews of your book. in a sea of a zillion books 27 reviews isnt much in the context i was asking. i havent seen your book so i cannot say one way or another, and your opinion is very biased, etc. hence, the whole reason why i posed the question to start with.

i'll give it a few days for some linux guru's (perhaps course trainers, etc) to chime in, maybe they have read a few different books and can give opinion. if nobody chimes in i'll venture off on my own to find online reviews, and if that fails i'll take a gamble on buying something.

thnx for the feedback.

Dear Linux_Kidd, thank you for clarifying. Not sure it matters for your purposes, I know of only three print books with the acronym "RHCSA" in its title. If you find others, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
