RHEL 2.6.9-5EL , etc/hosts localhost removed

Hello everyone, Hope you all get to enjoy the up coming holiday. I have a problem with 2.6.9-5EL. The etc/hosts file was changed and the localhost was removed so now the box doesn't boot up. The staff is having a hard time finding the original install cds. Is there any way I can get this to boot up minimally so I can change the etc/hosts file back to the way it should be?

Thank you
mikeman1

Hello and welcome to LQ, hope you like it here.
Please fill in your user profile so we know which release you use.

Is the box locally accessable or in colo?
Can't you get it to boot into runlevel 1?
Tried a Live CD like KNOPPIX?

Yes, it is local I have physical access to it and now I have the install CD's. I am new to Linux and am not sure but i think from what I read, if I use CD #1 I can get it to boot so I can get to the # prompt and change the etc/hosts file without changing anything else. Does that sound right?
