Red Hat 7.1 Enterprise Boot failure looping start job
Reboot of system.
Infinite loop on start job for Set Up Additional Binary Formats. Console log shows this at the start of the loop. Started Update UTMP about System Reboot/Shutdown. Started LVM2 PV scan on device 94:25. Started LVM2 PV scan on device 94:9. A start job is running for Set Up Additional Binary Formats A start job is running for Set Up Additional Binary Formats .....never ends....... |
are there any clues in the system logs ?
like /var/log/boot.log /var/log/messages /var/log/dmesg /var/log/Xorg.0.log |
The boot log has the messages referenced in the initial post. Nothing in dmesg or messages that appear to be related. There is no Xorg log. I would like to know what Set Up Additional Binary Formats is for and if it can be by-passed or timed out.

rule #1 in solving a computer problem
#1- What changed what changed right before there was a boot issue ? what was- installed uninstalled edited updated well what changed ? |
I did ask this question and the reply was that the system has been dormant for a while.
The system was ipled and this problem occurred. Quite possible since I receive the same error with the current kernel and previous kernel. So I am trying to understand what the looping process is and if this process can be corrected, interrupted or bypassed. |
