passwd changing problems

Hey Folks,
I have created the user "mktest" logged in as root. I set their passwd to "test123".
If user "mktest" logs in themselves and types 'passwd' at the command line to change their password they get the following....

Changing password for user mktest.
Changing password for mktest
(current) UNIX password:
You must wait longer to change your password
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error

I went into the /etc/login.defs file and changed the PASS_MIN_DAYS to 0 thinking that it would help... It hasn't.
Any ideas would be helpful. I will show you the entries I have for it in the passwd and shadow files.
Also, we are using LDAP, would that be a cause of the problem?

passwd:
mktest:x:603:603:MAK Test:/home/mktest:/bin/bash

shadow:
mktest:$1$M0veHwoUJdHg$56veH&h69D$4M400:14231:4:30:7:::

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

-M

You can change expiry information for existing accounts with the chage command. See the chage(1) manpages.

Thanks for the response anomie.
However I get the following:
]# man change
No manual entry for change

Any ideas?
Or perhaps you could explain the process of using it? Don't mean to ask too much, I understand if it's not possible.

Thanks again for any help.
