Is it possible that I can run multiple session of minicom in a server?
For example, 3 USB to Serial cable connecting to 3 console port device from a single server.
/dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/ttyUSB1
/dev/ttyUSB2
and created 3 different minicom config for each.
Then 3 different users are accessing 3 different console using minicom.
Hi Mod,
If there's thread like this, kindly redirect me.
Hi kbp,
I manage to work only in single minicom config (/dev/ttyUSB0). When I try to connect another user using different config, it hang, like not responding but the status of the minicom is online.
Do you have any idea why I can't make it work?
Are you getting error messages when you try to use both ports at the same time? If yes can you tell what those messages are.
I presume you did test each connection by itself, before you tried the multiple sessions.
I have no error messages, which is strange.
My serial cable (USB-Serial) are working. I tested it using my laptop.
As of now, I end-up using 3 servers using /dev/ttyS0 to connect to different console because I need it asap.
I plan to continue my problem tomorrow. I will build a fresh installed linux box and connect all USB-SERIAL.
Ok. Here's the update.
I have a working USB > Serial cable to access a console switch.
I test it using putty and it works. Both cables.
Now, I used minicom and what happen is, it hangs. It says "Online" but its not responding. It happened in both cables.
Also did 777 permission on device, no luck.
What causing my minicom to not work properly?
If I want to access my console using putty, is there a command to access /dev/ttyUSBO?
Problem/issues solved.
Minicom will work in different config with different physical ports.
I bought PCI Controller that is not fully supported by rhel.
